As a Past Master you should be able to step into any chair if asked. The word 'ask' is important when you read the summons and find out you have been given and office without the courtesy of a telephone call, it is annoying. It is the same with charges, if you are the only one who can do a certain charge then no real surprise, but again some sort of communication would go a long way.
